Now is the time to go “GREEN”
Jimi Castillo is the first Native American to run for the office of Lt. Governor in California. His tribal ancestry is Tongva, the original people of the Greater Los Angeles area, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino County (commonly referred to as the Gabrieleno) and Acjachemen, the original people of the South Orange County area and North San Diego County (commonly referred to as the Juaneno).
As a member of the Green Party, he fosters the ten key values of the party:
- ecological wisdom
- nonviolence
- social justice
- grass roots democracy
- decentralization
- community-based economics
- feminism
- respect for diversity
- personal and global responsibility
- sustainability.
Chief among his priorities are:
- establish a more affordable and accessible educational system
- reform the criminal justice system
- assure California residents have access to a clean, safe supply of drinking water and that our existing surface and groundwater is protected from pollution
- preserve our oceans with their enormous diversity of life and functions
- create a greater awareness of the rights of all indigenous peoples worldwide and promote full self-government on all Indian reservations
- advocate children’s rights
- set a standard of excellence in public land management to ensure we maintain a healthy environment in the future
